JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs intermediate technical work planning, coordinating, and implementing athletic programs, special interest classes, special events, day camps, field rentals, monitoring program budgets, and developing fee structures for programs, developing and implementing programs and activities, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Recreation Superintendent. Continuous supervision is exercised over all unclassified staff in area of assignment.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills and a clear commitment to safety with experience in the field of recreation. They will also have a team first attitude and be an effective leader with excellent communication skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED and moderate experience in aquatic/recreation program coordination or special event planning, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must meet and maintain all training and education requirements for the position.
Valid Driver License of appropriate class.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops, schedules, manages, and markets aquatic or recreation programs and events; coordinates use of facilities.
Assigns, leads, trains, and monitors the work of unclassified staff; coaches staff; evaluates staff performance; develops staff schedules; ensures deadlines for the department are met; supervises daily operations. Makes hiring and termination recommendations.
Answers questions, concerns, and inquiries about programs and events.
Creates and develops informational brochures, flyers and marketing materials for programs and events.
Maintains inventory; inspects, distributes, and delivers equipment and supplies. Makes recommendations for purchase of new equipment or supplies.
Maintains records and files; creates reports including payroll verification, attendance, and program costs.
Assists in the development of the departmental budget.
Solicits funding from outside sources for program assistance.
Operates and maintains motor vehicles or other work-related equipment requiring a valid driver license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of recreational programming; general knowledge of the social behavior of all age groups; general knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting, and supervising athletic and recreation activities; general knowledge of the principles and methods of multi-disciplined recreation class instruction; general knowledge of bookkeeping and budgeting principles, methods and procedures.
Skill in the use of personal computers, associated software packages, hardware, and peripheral equipment.
Ability to efficiently schedule and coordinate recreational activities and coordinate use of recreation facilities; ability to assess recreation needs of the community and to develop and implement appropriate programs; ability to prepare reports; ability to maintain program files and records; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to evaluate funding needs and to implore for funding from outside sources; ability to develop and distribute marketing materials; ability to plan, organize, direct, and train the work of subordinate employees; ability to problem solve quickly and work independently; ability to possess and demonstrate dynamic characteristics of energy, assertiveness, drive, enthusiasm and fun; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, community groups, other departments, other government agencies, program participants, supervisors, subordinates, and the general public.
