As a Combination Inspector/Plans Examiner, you’ll wear two very important hard hats:
- Inspector – You'll be out in the field conducting inspections on residential and commercial buildings, ensuring everything is up to code, safe, and built to last.
- Plans Examiner – You’ll review blueprints and building plans, helping guide developers, architects, and contractors toward compliance from the ground up.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining the quality and safety of our built environment — from backyard patio additions to full-scale commercial developments.

Key Responsibilities:
- Review building plans for compliance with building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes.
- Perform on-site inspections for ongoing construction projects.
- Communicate clearly with contractors, property owners, and developers about code requirements.
- Issue correction notices and re-inspect as needed.
- Maintain thorough and organized records of all inspections and plan reviews.
- Stay current on building codes, local ordinances, and construction trends.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:

- Knowledgeable and detail-oriented building professional with experience in both field inspections and plan review.
- Strong communication skills, a solid grasp of building codes, and a commitment to safety and customer service.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate/Technical degree with coursework in building construction or related field
- 1-3 years’ experience in building inspection, building construction, and building safety plan review/inspections or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of Residential or Commercial Building Inspector Certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) at hire.
- Possession of Residential or Commercial Building Plans Examiner Certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) at hire.
- Fire Inspector I Certification issued by the International Code Council (ICC) is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License of the appropriate class.
The selected candidate who does not possess the required certification will be considered a trainee at the time of hire.
